The Aerodynamics team is responsible for optimizing the performance of our aircraft designs. This involves the design and analysis of aerofoils, wing planforms, tail plane configurations and stability characteristics using theory as well as a variety of tools including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
The Structures team creates an internal structure for UGA's aircraft designs as well as developing manufacturing methods for the production of our aircrafts. All structural designs are taken through a conceptual phase before a final aircraft configuration is finalised by Aerodynamics, then thorough design and analysis work is completed to ensure that the aircraft is of optimised strength, weight and manufacturability.
The Mechatronics Team is responsible for the design of the mechanical and electrical systems that facilitate the motion of the moving parts of our aircraft designs. These moving parts include the powertrain and avionics systems. This team also governs the elements of programming that are involved with the creation of drones.
The Business Operations team manages the big picture strategic and logistical side of the society, ensuring the smooth running of our projects outside of the workshop. Their goal is to support the technical teams with the resources and visibility that they require to keep the society thriving. They handle sponsorship outreach, funding applications, event planning and the management of the society's social media.
The Cadets team is dedicated to helping new members (particularly first year students) learn the fundamentals of aircraft design and the nuances that present themselves within the field of drone design. Focused on education and skill-building, the team works on small-scale projects that allow them to explore all key concepts they will need to understand to be an effective team member within the senior UGA team.
