Hamburg, Germany | 18/08/25-24/08/25
Over the course of the 2024/25 academic year, UGA will be competing in the New Flying Competition (NFC) with the official competition fly-off taking place in August 2025. The NFC is a competition held in Hamburg and is hosted by the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. With the competition’s first edition taking place more than a decade ago, it now carries a reputation for being one of Europe’s premier events with backers including the likes of Airbus and Lufthansa.
The latest edition of the NFC will focus on the topic of environmentally friendly flying. All participating aircraft will be characterised by two key aspects. Firstly, all aircraft should be electrically powered and designed to be as efficient as possible. Secondly, the aircraft shall have the ability to transport large payloads to represent capacity for passengers or large hydrogen tanks. As long as any design has these two philosophies in mind, the rulebook is left fairly wide open.
At UGA we are very excited about the opportunity to compete at the NFC in 2025. The significant strides made last year give us a great platform to build off of and push even further. The largely open ruleset gives the team a great opportunity to explore new avenues of design and develop our skillsets. We aim to streamline our manufacturing processes to make another carbon fibre aircraft while making intelligent design choices to meet the criteria of the competition.
