EIS Sponsorship
EIS Sponsorship
We are pleased to announce that UGA has received sponsorship from the Engineering Integrity Society (EIS).
The sponsorship includes a monetary grant that will be used to expand UGA's CNC machining capabilities, enabling the production of internal structural parts out of composite materials. This will reduce the mass of the internal structure within future UGA aircraft, allowing the team to be more competitive in future competition.
Additional CNC machining capabilities will also enable the society to begin investigating the viability of the creation of machined moulds for composite external parts such as wing skins, potentially improving surface quality and therefore decreasing drag production.
While the technical benefits of this sponsorship are exciting, the learning opportunities this sponsorship opens up for the young engineers within the society is the greatest benefit. The acquisition of a CNC router allows students to learn NC Programming, as well as getting them involved with the operation and maintenance of CNC machines. These experiences are invaluable in making young engineers more competent within their craft, and boosting their job opportunities. UGA is delighted to be working with EIS in the shared goal of developing young engineers.
Stay tuned to see UGA's new CNC machining capabilities, and how we put them to good use on this year's aircraft.
